    GENERAL SUMMARY: This position serves as a teacher (aka caregiver) in a classroom of Early Head Start infants and toddlers by planning, implementing, and supervising all center-based activities. This position may work with infants and toddlers with developmental delays.  Because this position is one part of a large system of services provided to infants/toddlers and families, this position also serves as a social service referral person and shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program. The position of Teacher works in tandem with the rest of the parts of the system as an integrated team to support the goals of the program. The position may be reassigned to various classrooms/centers as deemed necessary for program operations.  The position may serve as “site director” for child care licensing purposes.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Minimum requirement is a current Child Development Associate (CDA) with infant/toddler endorsement and have been trained or have equivalent coursework* in age appropriate early childhood and child development with a focus on infant/toddler development.  An Associates’ or Bachelors’ degree in early childhood education, child development, family studies, home economics or child care that focuses on infant and toddler development and care or degree in any field with coursework** equivalent to   CDA credential subject areas and training specific to infant and toddler development is also acceptable.

    *Equivalent Coursework for Early Head Start teacher requirement can consist of the training required to obtain the CDA infant toddler credential.  Alternative credential programs are available for infant and toddler teachers. State agencies as well as accredited colleges and universities have developed infant-toddler certificate and degree programs that meet or exceed the requirements for a CDA. Those programs that exceed the requirements for a CDA may award college credit that accrues toward a two year degree. Teachers who successfully complete such certificate programs that meet or exceed the 120 clock hours (120 hours) and professional experience requirements of at least 480 hours of experience working in a group setting with infants and toddlers as required for the CDA are considered by the Office of Head Start (OHS) to meet the EHS credential requirement.

    **AA/BA Coursework: No less than 15 semester credits for the associates’ degree or 30 semester credits for the bachelors’ degree in courses that focus specifically on child development, early childhood education, psychology, family development, health and physical development.  Such courses may have been taken in various departments, such as Education, Home Economics, Music, Art, Library Sciences, Physical Education and Recreation, Psychology, Family Studies, and others and must specifically address infants and toddlers.

    Position is 40 hours per week, 46 weeks per year.

    Pay is D.O.E.:    CDA - $14.76 hourly  --  AA - $16.87 hourly  --  BA - $19.51 hourly

This position provides content area training and technical supervision to other agency staff and ensures health services are supported by staff/consultants with training and experience in public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child health or health administration.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree in a health or nutrition field or other closely related field. Experience working in public health or nutrition arena and working with low-income clients preferred. Experience and training in public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child health or health administration preferred. Experience and knowledge of family-strengths/family-centered practice preferred.

    JOB TITLE: Education Services Manager

    IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Program Director     

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    The Education and Early Childhood Development content area is an integral part of the larger system of services provided by Head Start/Early Head Start.  It plays an important part in supporting the goals of the program.  This position is responsible for the education and early childhood development portion of 1304 and 1306 of the Head Start Performance Standards.  This includes working to develop an early childhood education curriculum and providing educational resources for staff and parents, ensuring compliance with performance standards and recognized best practices in the field of early childhood education.  The position ensures the education and child development services are supported by staff/consultants with training and experience in areas that include the theories and principles of child growth and development, early childhood education and family support.

    PRIMARY REPONSIBILTIES:

    1. Understands, generates and documents in-kind and other allowable costs applied toward the non-federal share requirement.
    2. Attends all workshops and meetings as deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor.
    3. Attends all required staff and parent meetings and activities.
    4. Responsible for understanding Head Start Performance Standards and local child care licensing regulations.
    5. Expected to be knowledgeable of the regulations associated with prevention of occupational disease and injury, including the exercise of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination.  
    6. Positively promotes Head Start in the community.
    7. Models and exercises supervisory authority to support other employees in the execution of work duties in a manner consistent with CDI Head Start standards for compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, including CDI Head Start policies and procedures reflecting best practices.  Adherence to the procedure for Policy Council approval or disapproval of hiring and termination decisions made by CDI Head Start as described in the Head Start Performance Standards (Section 1304.50) is required.  In addition, supervisors are expected to model exemplary standards of ethical behavior and exercise careful stewardship of program funds, and support those they supervise in adhering to those standards.
    8. Becomes thoroughly familiar with CDI Head Start Employee Handbook:  Human Resources Policies and Procedures, CDI Head Start Operations Manual and all other CDI HS handbooks, manuals and resources and adheres to them.
    9. Plans and directs the work of the staff supervised.  Observes and gives feedback to staff or volunteers supervised where applicable and other staff as assigned on at least a weekly basis.
    10. Makes appropriate personnel decisions that do not require higher approval and submits others as a recommendation to the supervisor.
    11. Determines appropriate training needs to meet the program goals and objectives and makes the necessary recommendations.
    12. Develops and supports the professional development plan for staff supervised.
    13. Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    14. Monitors compliance with the content area work plans.
    15. Develops and implements a plan and system of continuous ongoing monitoring and evaluation of activities within the program.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Current minimum qualification is one of the following:

    1. A baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education; or
    2. A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any field and coursework*  equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with at least 500 clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching preschool-age children.

    *Coursework equivalent to a major related to Early Childhood Education includes but is not limited to the following:

    A. Teaching Credentials: licensure or certification by the state for Pre-K teachers recognized by the local school district or state education agency as qualifying teachers to teach pre-school children in that school district or state if the individual has at least 500 clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching pre-school aged children.  This typically requires a bachelor’s degree plus licensure or certification.

    OR

    B. *Coursework:  No less than 30 credits within the bachelors degree in courses that focus on child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment, psychology, family development, health and physical development, mathematics, science, and children’s literature.  Such courses may have been taken in various departments, such as Education, Home Economics, Music, Art, Library Sciences, Physical Education and Recreation, Psychology, Family Studies, and others.

    Position is 40 hours per week, 50 weeks per year. Pay is D.O.E. $2,049.90 Bi Weekly.

    IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Center Supervisor

    GENERAL SUMMARY:  This position is one role in a large system of services provided to children and families.  A strong food service program is important to supporting the goals of the program.  This position is responsible the ordering, preparing, serving and documenting of meals and snacks.  It includes following menus and all phases of kitchen operations including inventory control.  The position contributes to the smooth operations and functioning of the kitchen in adherence to health and food safety codes and the strict cleanliness of the kitchen and food service and storage areas.  The position may prepare foods for infants and toddlers and/or preschool children following the USDA/CACFP standards.  Position may involve reassignment to various kitchens/center as deemed necessary for program operations.

    PRIMARY REPONSIBILTIES:  Prepares and serves food and assists in any food related activities as directed and menus as approved by registered dietitian/nutritionist including the preparation of food to meet the needs of children with special needs or disabilities.Oversees maintenance of inventory for all necessary supplies, food and equipment used for food services operations.Oversees the processing and storage of food and food related items as they are delivered.Oversees full kitchen operations and may supervise additional staff or volunteer assistance (depending on size and scope of workload).
