    Assistant Teacher

    JOB TITLE: Assistant Teacher

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    This position works as a part of a teaching team to work as a partner with the teacher/lead teacher in developing activities for preschool (Head Start) children to provide them with varied experiences and an appropriate learning environment. Works with typically developing children and children with disabilities. Assistance is given to the teacher in carrying out the goals, policies, and activities designed to implement educational objectives and performance standards. This position works with families to promote parent involvement in the program. In addition, this position might also serve as a Bus Monitor as part of the transportation services provided by the program. This position may be assigned additional duties based upon program need and areas of developing expertise. This position works along with the teacher/lead teacher to attain the goals of the program.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

    Minimum requirement is one of the following:

    1.     A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential;

    2.     Be enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of being hired into the position;

    3.     An associate or baccalaureate degree (in any area); or

    4.     Be enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.

     Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area). 

    Position is 40 hours per week, 40 weeks per year. Pay is D.O.Q. per hour $12.00 HS/GED /  $13.00 CDA / $14.00 AA or higher.

    Teacher Infant Toddler

    Location: Heritage Center; Hartford CT              Apply For this Job

    TITLE OF POSITION:                        Teacher - Infant/Toddler

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    This position serves as a teacher (aka caregiver) in a classroom of Early Head Start infants and toddlers by planning, implementing, and supervising all center-based activities. This position may work with infants and toddlers with developmental delays.  Because this position is one part of a large system of services provided to infants/toddlers and families, this position also serves as a social service referral person and shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program.

     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Minimum requirement is a current Child Development Associate (CDA) with infant/toddler endorsement and have been trained or have equivalent coursework* in age appropriate early childhood and child development with a focus on infant/toddler development.  An Associates’ or Bachelors’ degree in early childhood education, child development, family studies, home economics or child care that focuses on infant and toddler development and care or degree in any field with coursework** equivalent to   CDA credential subject areas and training specific to infant and toddler development is also acceptable.

    Position is 40 hours per week, 48 weeks per year. Pay is D.O.Q. $1,160.00 bi-weekly CDA / $1,360.00 bi-weekly AA /         $1,560.00.00 bi-weekly BA or higher

     GENERAL SUMMARY

    This position serves as the lead worker in a classroom of Head Start children by planning, implementing, and supervising all classroom activities.     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Current minimum qualification is one of the following:

    1. An associate degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education and coursework* equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with at least 500 clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching preschool-age children;
    2. A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any field and coursework*  equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with at least 500 clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching preschool-age children; or
    3. A baccalaureate degree in any field and has been admitted into the Teach For America program, passed a rigorous early childhood content exam, such as the Praxis II, participated in a Teach For America summer training institute that includes teaching preschool children, and is receiving ongoing professional development and support from Teach For America’s professional staff; or

     Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area). 

    Position is 40 hours per week, 40 weeks per year. Pay is D.O.Q. $1,160.00 bi-weekly CDA (with waiver) /  $1,360.00 bi-weekly AA / $1,560.00.00 bi-weekly BA or higher

    Program Aide

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    This position works as a part of a team to assist in activities in the areas of the classroom, kitchen and bus and/or to serve as a disabilities aide as needed. The position contains elements of job descriptions of positions with titles similar classroom aide, janitor and kitchen aide and as a disabilities aide providing support for children with disabilities.  Works with typically developing children and/or children with special needs/disabilities.  The position may be reassigned to various classrooms/centers as deemed necessary for program operations.  

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    The minimum requirement is that the individual be 18 years of age.  This is an entry-level position requiring no previous education or experience unless there is a local or state regulation that requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.   A high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.

    Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area). 

    Position is 40 hours per week, 40 weeks per year. Pay is $11.50 per hour.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Minimum requirement is an AA or higher in Social Work or Human Services or related human services field is preferred.

    Position is 40 hours per week, 48 weeks per year. Pay is  $14.00 hourly with AA - $16.00 hourly with BA
