Letter to Parents
Dear CDI Head Start Parents:
As you were notified earlier, Newark Preschool Council, Inc. will no longer receive federal funding to provide Head Start and Early Head Start services in Newark, NJ. July 1, 2014, Community Development Institute Head Start (CDI HS) was appointed by the Office of Head Start to provide Head Start/Early Head Start services in this area on an interim basis.
CDI HS was notified on August 1, 2014 that another awardee was awarded a portion of the funded enrollment slots in the Newark service area. CDI HS will remain responsible for providing services to 1459 Head Start and 90 Early Head Start children. The service area for the Head Start program remains in all five wards. CDI HS will continue to operate NJ PRE-K/Abbott slots, however, the number of slots has been reduced. At this point, we have not applied for WRAP services but we continue to investigate our opportunities.
In view of our reduced Head Start slots, we have made a decision to open twenty three of the Head Start centers and one Early Head Start center that were formerly operated by Newark Preschool Council. If your child was enrolled in Newark Preschool Head Start and was eligible to return this fall, then CDI Head Start is excited to be providing services to you this year. Below is the list of Head Start centers that we plan to open in September. If your child attended a center not on this list you will be offered a placement at a nearby center or one of your choosing.

We are in the process of working to obtain child care licensing for these centers and hope to begin the program year on September 4 with September 2-3 as phase in days for you to meet your child’s teacher and center staff. Center based staff will be in contact with you regarding parent enrollment, orientation and the start of school.

Como se le comunico anteriormente, Newark Preschool Council, Inc. dejará de recibir fondos federales para proveer los servicios de Head Start y Early Head Start en Newark, NJ. 01 de Julio 2014, Community Development Institute Head Start (CDI HS) fue designado por la Oficina de Head Start para brindar los servicios de Head Start/Early Head Start en esta área, en forma provisional.
CDI HS fue notificado el 01 de Agosto 2014 que otro adjudicatario fue otorgado con una parte de los cupos de matrícula financiados en el área de servicio de Newark.
