The position contains elements of job descriptions of positions with titles similar classroom aide, bus monitor, janitor and kitchen aide and as a disabilities aide providing support for children with disabilities.  Works with typically developing children and/or children with special needs/disabilities.   The position may be reassigned to various classrooms/centers/bus routes as deemed necessary for program operations.  This position may receive content area technical support and training from the staff person responsible for center supervision, teacher, kitchen staff and/or program managers/specialist/coordinatorsTransportation is one part of a large system of services provided to children and families. It plays an important role in supporting the overall goals of the program.  This position is responsible for assisting with the transportation of children and parents/families between program activities and home or bus stops including field trips and helping to keep the vehicle clean and in safe operating conditions at all times.  Bus assignments and routes may be changed as deemed necessary for program operations.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

     

    The minimum requirement is that the individual be 18 years of age.  This is an entry-level position requiring no previous education or experience unless there is a local or state regulation that requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.   A high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.  Some states may require additional requirements for kitchen aide duties (i.e., kitchen permit).     GENERAL SUMMARY OF WHAT THE POSITION DOES

    This position is responsible for ensuring clean, safe, functional facilities by performing cleaning and maintenance activities as well as some repair activities including plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting when professional licensure is not required.

    Knowledge:  Knowledge of basic operations, tools, and terms used in building maintenance work.  Knowledge of plumbing, painting, and other light facility maintenance.  Knowledge of federal, state and local safety and building code requirements.  Knowledge of safe and thorough basic cleaning and sanitation practices.  Expected to be knowledgeable of the regulations associated with prevention of occupational disease and injury, including the exercise of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination.

     

    Abilities:  Ability to lift objects weighing 75 pounds.  Ability to operate light trucks (where required) and equipment for minor building upgrades where needed. Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision.  Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.  Ability to operate standard cleaning appliances such as vacuum cleaners, rug shampoo machines, polishers, etc.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    GENERAL SUMMARY:  

    This position serves as a teacher (aka caregiver) in a classroom of Early Head Start infants and toddlers by planning, implementing, and supervising all center-based activities. This position may work with infants and toddlers with developmental delays.  Because this position is one part of a large system of services provided to infants/toddlers and families, this position also serves as a social service referral person and shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program. The position of Teacher works in tandem with the rest of the parts of the system as an integrated team to support the goals of the program.     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

    Minimum requirement is a current Child Development Associate (CDA) with infant/toddler endorsement and have been trained or have equivalent coursework* in age appropriate early childhood and child development with a focus on infant/toddler development.  An Associates’ or Bachelors’ degree in early childhood education, child development, family studies, home economics or child care that focuses on infant and toddler development and care or degree in any field with coursework** equivalent to   CDA credential subject areas and training specific to infant and toddler development is also acceptable.
